A Dodecahedron Speaker for Desktop Printers

The speaker consists of three different types of modules designed for easy fabrication on small fused-filament 3D printers.

I designed, built, and laboriously documented the construction of this speaker for Instructables’ 2012 “Make it Real” challenge. I worked for a solid month to hit the contest’s original deadline, which was, frustratingly, postponed at the 11th hour. To add insult to injury, the scope of the contest (which had originally been limited to 3D printables) was widened broadly to include pretty much anything built using a software tool, even at the design stage. Grand Prize was an Objet Systems 3D printer worth $50K, and I’m confident that if Instructables hadn’t baited-and-switched me, I’d have claimed it. As it was, I took home one of ten “First Prizes.”
